Wanted: climate pioneers!
Climate Pioneers is a project of Swisscom, Solar Impulse and myclimate. It offers school classes from kindergarten up to the senior classes the opportunity to realise their own carbon offset projects and supports teachers in the development and implementation of their ideas.

- The climate pionieer Bertrand Piccard
This project has two prominent "patrons" – the climate pioneers Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg. These two are planning to circumnavigate the planet in 2013 in their solar-powered aircraft, the "Solar Impulse", hoping that this will send out a message regarding our dependence on fossil fuels. Together with myclimate and Swisscom, they are now searching for tomorrow's climate pioneers, granting all participating classes an exclusive insight into their work with the “Solar Impulse”.
There is no shortage of ideas for projects – and there's almost no limit to where your imagination can take you:
- Help your class draw up a list of climate tips and find 100 people to choose a tip they can commit to implementing immediately. Let them confirm this with their signature.
- Help your class offer a bicycle buying service for two weeks.
- Help your class install water saving sets on all the water faucets in the school building.
- Help your class organise a vegetarian lunch with local and seasonal ingredients for other classes or for the parents.
- Help your class film climate protection clips and organise a public screening.
- Help your class invent a climate competition with interesting prizes and present it at the village market.
Free introductory lessons and a brand-new climate folder
If you are interested in this project, you can book myclimate for your lessons free of charge. On offer are interactive and diversified introductory lessons on the subject of "Climate and Energy", tailor made for each form. At the same time first project ideas are gathered in the class.
The brand-new teaching aid "Climate Hours for Climate Pioneers" (Steps folder, zkm publishers) by myclimate supports the implementation of climate projects with teaching suggestions for the areas of consumption, mobility, habitation, renewable energy, biodiversity and the consequences of climate change. The chapter “Solar Impulse” offers an in-depth insight into Bertrand Piccard's climate pioneer project.
